Henrico organizations double the impact of Small Business Boost Program

Henrico, VA

The Henrico Economic Development Authority (EDA) and local online publication partner, the Henrico Citizen, have joined forces to broaden the reach of a grant to support small businesses. The Henrico Small Business Boost program provides complimentary, three-month advertising packages to assist small businesses with promoting their brand and products or services. Forty companies have been selected to participate in this year’s Boost program – doubling the number of businesses served by the 2023 pilot program.

Boost advertising packages, valued at $4,000 each, will be administered by the Henrico Citizen to its audience of over 80,000 monthly web visitors and 50,000 email subscribers and social media followers. The 40 participating Boost businesses will each be promoted via email newsletter, social media channels, podcasts, and sponsored content platforms.

In a spirit of community support, Boost grant recipients will “pay it forward” by offering in-kind donations of products or services worth a minimum of $250 to a Henrico nonprofit organization, further strengthening the ties between Henrico’s businesses and residents.

Small businesses are the heartbeat of our community,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Tyrone E. Nelson of the Varina District. “This year, the Henrico Small Business Boost program provides an elevated level of visibility for 40 of our small businesses, giving them the opportunity they deserve to grow, which ultimately leads to a thriving Henrico.

We’re thrilled to be able to help tell the stories of these 40 businesses to our readers and supporters in the coming months,” said Henrico Citizen Publisher Tom Lappas. “Operating a small business presents owners with a number of constant challenges, and marketing is one. Through this program, we aim to educate these business owners about best marketing practices while also helping to provide important local visibility that many of them otherwise might not be able to afford.

The 40 Boost participants represent a diverse range of industries and ownership. From tutoring companies and restaurants to dentists, landscapers, and consultants, the program celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit prevalent in Henrico. Notably, 22 of the 40 participating Boost businesses are owned by individuals of color, while 28 businesses are held by women – a testament to Boost’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
